A day at the beach!

Its now Sunday evening here.

On Friday afternoon we made our way back to the house. I spent some time on Skype while Hilary and Morgan checked out the "Twilight Tea" at the high school we live near. We had been given the impression that there would be free food, and what kind of college students would we be if that wasn't enough to get us to attend. Unfortunately as it turned out there wasn't actually any free food. I scrounged around to find some food at the house and relaxed for the evening. Simon and Katarina came to visit and get a tour of the house. Eventually I will have to take some pics to show it off because Hilary didn't have much luck (to my knowledge) in posting the videos she took that I had referred to earlier.

The only one I've taken so far (above) is of my bedroom.

On Saturday after sleeping in Morgan and I decided to take a trip to the beach. First we walked to a nearby bakery and I got a doughnut and a cheese and Vegemite twist to take along for lunch at the beach. Hilary stayed home to get some extra rest and have some personal time.

To get to the beach we went into the city and took the tram (not a bus but not a train) to Glenelg Beach. It rained periodically throughout the day, as can maybe be seen from the picture below.
When we got off the train I discovered there was a restaurant called Nandos, which is a brand of sauces and marinades from South Africa. I had to take a picture.
I got some decent pictures from the beach. I only got a little sunburned, OK a lot sunburned on a little area on my back.

Occasionally the sun would go away making it actually pretty cold on the beach. It is kind of easy to tell how windy it was by my ability to hold my towel like a flag. Morgan and I eventually gave up because it was so chilly and went for a walk around the shops. I gave in a purchased some shampoo and conditioner because I've discovered the hard way that a person cannot make it through 3 months on 2 travel size bottles of shampoo and conditioner. We made our way home and met Hilary to make some supper and watch an Australian movie she brought home. It was actually very good. Helen and Peter stopped over and brought us some stuff in the kitchen from Tanya, which is VERY much appreciated. It is much easier to cook when you have pots and pans to cook in.
This morning Hilary and I went to a Uniting church in the neighborhood, which comes of the the Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregationalist traditions. There service started with a focus on the children's ministry, which had concluded a camping retreat that morning. After the children had gone to Sunday School, the rest of the service had a good mix of contemporary music and some traditional. In all honesty I didn't find too much that I could connect with in the service, but the people were very welcoming. This is the first service we've attended where we didn't have an escort to introduce us. It just so happened that the first woman that greeted me took us under her wing and introduced us to her daughter who sat with us. After the service they introduced us to a couple other people around our age and we had a cup of tea. Afterwards, Emma, the daughter we were introduced to talked with us about the shops and such in the area and drew us a map. She saw us as we were walking home and offered us a lift. She dropped us at one of the shopping centers so we could see where it was. She was very kind.
We found a Cheap as Chips, a discount store in the area where we will be able to buy toilet paper and other household products for a reasonable price. There is also a KFC and Hungry Jacks (Burger King) there. Its always good to have our eyes open to a new area where we are staying and to know where our resources are.
Helene brought over the rest of the supplies that I will need to take with me tomorrow to the training. I will be taking a taxi at 7:30am to her house and then going with her to the Budget Skills training. I am excited about the training because it will be a helpful skill, if I can catch onto it, both for my own life and any assistance I can give through any positions later in life. It is a two day training so I will be there for Monday and Tuesday and then return to our house and continue my usual schedule on Wednesday.
