A Sport Weekend!

On Friday I spent most of the day with Jared and Pam from Calvary. Pam had a couple appointments in the Magill area and they picked me up from the Magill office. The first appointment was with a client who didn't show up, but hadn't been for a while. Pam had asked Jared to come along for support because last week when she had gone an "ex" partner that wasn't supposed to be on the property answered the door. They went into the house to get details on the washing machine and came out safe. I stayed in the car just in case. The next stop was checking on a house that had recently been moved out of but the tenant had left a lot of stuff in the yard. It looked better than was expected and the house did not appear to have been broken into or anything. The last appointment was with a woman who had recently moved into her new home and is just finishing up her time with her support worker. She seems to be doing fairly well and that is good. She needed a little help dealing with a shop she'd just purchased a washing machine from and wasn't satisfied with its functionality. (It wasn't collecting the fluff.)

This is actually a fire extinguisher. Its hard to see, but the short line on the street is the only way to know that a person can't park there.
We had lunch at Nandos and then they dropped me back off at the Magill office on their way back down to Calvary.
Helene took us home when she had to go pick up her daughter from the school. We quickly got ready and headed back into the city to meet up with Jeremy for the footy game. We caught a bus to the stadium where we watched with 40,997 other people as the Adelaide Crows got their butts kicked. It was still really fun to watch. I'll upload a video of it so hopefully those with good eyes can see how the game goes. (We were up in the nosebleeds.)

OK, so all of my video's are pretty hard to see because of how far up we were. The goal of the game is to get the ball (like a rugby ball) through the goal (which is the middle two poles at the ends and = 6pts). If it goes through either of the side sections it is 1pt. The players can carry the ball 15 yrds and then they pass it in a way that is kind of like an underhand volleyball serve or kick it. The sport involves constant action.

After the game we went to the Crows shed where we had a beer and visited with some of the folks from Glynde and listened to a bit of music. After a while a couple of the players came out and talked about the game. Then around midnight everyone went home.

This is the assistant coach who got up and spoke about the game.
Saturday we headed to the International Rugby 7s here in Adelaide. It was really neat because when we arrived the first game happening was South Africa v. (At the moment I can't remember who). This was super exciting because I had become a little familiar with their team history when I was there last May. They clearly were still playing well because they won easily and actually won the whole tournament. We also got to see Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, and the US play to name a few. We actually got to see all 16 teams play while we were there. We were all a bit disappointed that the US didn't seem to play all that well. I guess rugby maybe just isn't our thing. Hilary and I made our way home and spent the evening relaxing.

Not only does Australians eat their National Emblems, they also eat babies.
On Sunday Hilary and I had planned to try to go shopping. We went to a shopping center a few Ks from where we're living and it wasn't opening until 11. I didn't have too much time because I had a date with the computer at 1 or 2:30 (wasn't completely sure because we had daylight savings time overnight but couldn't really figure out what time it really was all day). I didn't even end up buying anything, even after we went into the city to shop. I made it home to talk to Tim on the computer and then relax a bit before we went to church. We attended a Malvern Uniting church contemporary service. The service was great and the people were really welcoming. We met a couple new people and they've invited us to Hahndorf on Tuesday and we're real excited to go.

Today Hilary and I are at the Magill office to help answer phones because Helen and Helene have gone to Alice Springs to work on their new project out there.
